Creation of a category

To create a category click on the Categories tab. You already have the Home category setup. You can see "Home / [edit]" the slash "/" is the path to the category. Here this is the root of your website or your homepage. It is not recommended to put all your documents in your homepage as your homepage is will automatically aggregate and display the last documents of your website. As we want to have some news in our website, we will create a new category in which we will put the news.

Categories

Click on New category you will have a form to add the new category. I will provide a lot of details of all the form input as you will see that you will find them again and again every where in the interface as we try to keep the interface as consistent as possible.

Parent category and format

You can select the parent category. This is because you can create subcategories. As this is the first subcategory we have no choices, we can only chose the Home category as parent category. Then the format. Here we chose Wiki so we can use the Wiki syntax in the description of the category.

After that you enter the title. You can simply press the Tabs key to navigate between the fields. You will see that when you type in News as the title and press Tabs at the end, the field Path is automatically updated with the path /News/ it means that the users will access this category by typing yourwebsite.com/News/ of course you can change overwrite this proposition and put /news/ or something else. Each category must have a unique path within a website.

The other elements of interest are the Template and the Cache time. You can chose the template that match with your category. As you are not working with the homepage, simply chose category.php and the cache time is 1h by default, you can put 10h.

Template, cache time and Wiki syntax

You can see also Wiki syntax just click on the plus sign and you will see a reminder of the syntax. You can use this syntax in the description. You can add keywords as a comma separated list. When you click on Save it will save, if you click on Visualize it will show you how your description looks like when converted from Wiki to HTML.
